TEAM-E Science incorporates the essential and interwoven components of excellence in Teaching, an emphasis on inquire and Experimentation, And the important benefits of retired scientist and university faculty Mentoring with attention to the improvement of Engineering through quality standards-based Science lessons (TEAM-E Science). TEAM-E Science will establish a model for the teaching of STEM in the elementary grades (K-8) and contribute to the research base on engineering education matched to the Next Generation Science Standards and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. The Merced County Office of Education, located in the agriculture based county in northern California, will join with the rural Sierra Nevada foothill county of Mariposa to develop novel STEM replacement units that use engineering as a student interest based approach to effectively integrate science, math, engineering and technology to improve student STEM learning and achievement.
